The title sounds like a NYC E2E wholecar from the late 70s but it’s actually a half-decent BBC documentary that I spotted whilst channel surfing the BA’s new inflight entertainment system.
With the usual drivel they serve up on long haul flights, something with a reference to our subway system caught my attention, predictably. I was half watching and snoozing but when they started talking about disused tunnels and track walking it all became quite interesting.
Apparently the underground system is full of restless spirits of people who died on the system, or whose final resting places were disturbed when the tunnels bored through plague pits/burial sites and the programme is a collection of short stories about people’s ghostly experiences.
Some of the stories were Channel 5 standards but others compelling. It was funny watching LU staff talking and seeing genuine fear on their faces when recalling their experiences.
Graffers have all have travelled late night on LU and entered some strictly off limits places using some well dodgy access points that no sane person would even consider using, but when the adrenaline is pumping who gives a second thought about what’s out there in the dark right? The people I was with were usually zooted or drunk so it probably would not have made much of a difference to be honest – but being the sober one, the amount of times I thought I could see shapes that looked like SGs or clays bopping up but wasn’t sure…
Its a long one, around 45mins, but with xmas here you have time and it’s worth a watch. Check the part where the hard old timer clay talks about seeing footsteps going past him when he is tunnel walking and he has to continue the same direction. Some good footage for disused tunnels and shit for all your urban explorers out there.
